AB Precision (Poole) Ltd has been providing commercial and military solutions since its founding in 1966. Originally manufacturing electro-mechanical items for the Royal Navy its defence related product list and commercial services continue to grow.

ABP is divided into a number of business units each responsible for its own services and product range. The company is BS EN ISO 9001:2000 certified including software TickIT and has received awards from the Royal Mail and Dorset chamber of Commerce among others for its services and products.

Located on the south coast of England ABP occupies factory and office premises of 35,000 sq ft and employs a workforce of approximately 75. ABP’s markets include international defence and security organisations and automotive, medical and manufacturing industries. Internationally ABP operate through a network of agents and distributors who have made ABP’s products respected and trusted throughout the world.

EOD and Remote Vehicles Business Unit

The EOD and RV Business Unit manufactures a wide range of products, many of which are in service with the UK MoD’s EOD community and are NATO codified. Many EOD/IEDD operators in the world’s EOD community will be familiar with and trust the performance of these products that include Pigstick, Hotrod (Improved Disruptor), Needle, Dragon De-Armers and Miniature Electronic Exploders (Minex). Working privately and with the UK MoD the company has developed and introduced a range of recoilless disruptors beginning in 1991 with the introduction into service of the ABL 1000 to the latest ABL 2000 and 3000, disruptors which are currently being introduced into service with the UK MoD.

The product range is not limited to disruptor weapons; ABP manufactures the Non Magnetic Mine Prodder (ABL 700) the Detonator Crimp Tool (ABL 022) and the heavyweight Hook and Line Kit (ABL 018). ABP is an accredited and commercially available testing house for Non Magnetic ranging standards in accordance with Stanag 2897 Annex C.

The company also manufactures EOD/IEDD vehicles, Cyclops miniature ROV, Bison™ medium ROV, Groundhog™ miniature EOR ROV and Lynx wheeled miniature ROV. The Cyclops, known to the UK MoD as Buckeye has been in service since the early 1990s and was designed specifically to work in enclosed spaces such as aircraft, trains, buses and coaches where access to overhead lockers is required. The vehicle has now been significantly enhanced to the latest Cyclops Mk 4D standard offering an extremely versatile and capable vehicle able to carry up to four disruptor weapons, tools, detection and diagnostic equipment including chemical and explosives detectors, laser range finders and portable X-Ray equipment etc.

The future

Our design team, engineers and production staff have collaborated with the user community to produce innovative designs and constant upgrades to customer requirements to produce world class products.

We have partnered with companies such as Diajet to produce the ACE Hydro-abrasive Cutting Equipment based on the highly successful Osprey^® cutting system and using ABP’s skill at manipulation and control to win a significant MoD contract against world class competition. New and exciting developments are available including the Water Packaging Equipment, a trailer deployable system which takes purified water and packages it into conveniently sized sachets which can be distributed to either soldiers in the field or those in need during humanitarian relief programmes ensuring safe distribution of potable water.
