ADRAL is a regional structure established on the 18th June 1998,
with an initial fully paid-up share capital of 498.798€. It is a result of a
wide partnership, composed of an ensemble of entities, both public and
private, working on several areas of activity with relevant experience in
all sectors of economic, social, research and development activities,
geographically spread and deeply acquainted with the local and regional reality.
Being a Joint Stock Company, its statutes do not require attributing
profits to shareholders. The agency does not anticipate distributing profits
to shareholders, which means that the philosophy of this company
corresponds in practice to those of non-profit bodies.
One of the major tasks of ADRAL is the cooperation with all local agents,
promoting common initiatives and projects based on a spirit of partnership,
fundamental to achieve the proposed aims.

Strategic Principles
- Qualification and reinforcement of the industrial sector in order to
increase competition.
- Valuation of the existing potential in the productive sector.
- To support the economic structure especially to those sectors which
have a strong impact on employment (in order to create and maintain new
jobs) facing the inter-regional asymmetries and strengthening social
cohesion.
- Global qualification of human resources and the local communities.
- To support the spread of entrepreneurial culture, promoting an
entrepreneurial position of young people and the creation of new
companies (micro and SME’s) in areas which have a strong internal
potential
- To promote Alentejo region, as well as its comparative advantages to
attract investors (national and international ones).
- Agreement of national and community programmes of interest to the
region, as well as eventual support funds.
- Recognising the importance of non renewable resources existing in
the Pyrites Area, to study a suitable concept of regional development
supported in the sulphuring mining reality and setting it up in order to
solve the related social question.
The object of ADRAL – Alentejo Regional Development Agency, is to promote
the regional development of Alentejo and strengthen its economic and
productive base, in co-operation with other agents and entities in the
region, and the ones within European Union, which have a similar purpose.
