Who are we? A specialist contractor providing time and cost effective, high quality and environmentally favourable maintenance processes for concrete and asphalt pavements throughout the UK and Europe.
Antigo Breakers operate Badger Breakers® which are manufactured by Badger State Highway Equipment Inc. of Wisconsin, USA.
Benefits: Cost savings in new materials, reduction in construction time and environmental considerations.
We are a service provider to maintenance contractors, Local Authorities, major “blue chip” construction companies, demolition contractors and specialist sub contractors.
We provide a modern fleet of breakers, utilising the latest technology and innovation techniques to provide an efficient and reliable service supporting our core business of Cracking & Seating, Rubblizing and Breaking for removal. A total contract package can be supplied in support of our operations, including vibration monitoring, sweeping, coring, rolling, FWD testing and analysis.
Our fleet of milling machines ranging from 1000mm to 350mm are all fitted with fine milling drums. Other drum sizes are available to suit various crack repair operations and maintenance works.
| 1. Cracking & Seating | - First consideration for in-situ recycling & rehabilitation of a failed concrete pavement to accept asphalt overlay. |
| Application | Airfields, motorways, trunk roads, urban roads & streets, lay-down areas & access roads. |
| Advantages | Reduces the effect of reflective cracking
in the asphalt overlay. Cost effective in-situ recycling operation. Environmentally acceptable compared with alternative methods of Reconstruction. |
| 2. Rubblizing | - Second consideration for in-situ recycling & rehabilitation of a failed concrete pavement to accept asphalt overlay. |
| Application | Airfields, motorways, trunk roads, urban roads & streets, lay-down areas and access roads. |
| Advantages | Eliminates reflective cracking. Cost effective in-situ recycling operation. Reduces asphalt overlay thickness compared with full reconstruction alternatives. Environmentally acceptable compared with the alternative of removal & re-deposition. |
| 3. Breaking for Removal | - Final consideration for recycling and secondary processing of a failed concrete pavement. |
| Application | All concrete pavements. |
| Advantages | Consistent product sizing, hence easier
lifting and secondary processing. Speed of production compared with hydraulic breakers. Increased secondary crushing production. Increase in haulage efficiency, with fewer movements |
| 4. Fine Grinding | - To re-instate skid resistance characteristics. |
| Application | All pavements. |
| Advantages | Improves safety & increases the life of
pavement. Speed: a single operation. |
| 5. Fine Milling | - Retexturing and removal of thin surfaces and white lines. |
| Application | Airfields, roads and urban streets, removal of anti-skid surfaces, retexturing, line removal. |
| Advantages | Removal of thin surfaces without
significantly reducing the underlying pavement thickness. Pavement left with a fine textured finish, ready to accept a new surface with minimum new material wastage. |
This year, Antigo has implemented several highly significant developments relating to concrete maintenance. Considerable cost savings were achieved in both cases.
Cracking & Seating - Heathrow Airport. We introduced cracking & seating to the London Heathrow Airport Taxiway refurbishment programme. This is the first time that this process had been used on a major commercial airport worldwide.
The BAA team had to look beyond traditional runway rehabilitation techniques to achieve cost savings, minimise disruption, and save time. Full-scale trials established that this solution was suitable for heavyweight aircraft travelling at relatively low frequency on concrete pavements. Monitoring of actual deflections on Heathrow’s taxiways verified its suitability, and in May 2004 work commenced on the first “crack & seat” pavement at Heathrow.
Cost savings: 25% in pavement
construction
Environmental issues: 90% reduction in
construction traffic.
Suitable for urban roads & runways………….Although the technique
developed by BAA’s Engineers by a series of cracking & seating trials is
more complicated to suit their purposes than the conventional operation
currently carried out on our major highways, the basic process is suitable
for all concrete pavements including urban roads.
For the first time in the UK, a highway was reconstructed using a multi head breaker and the Antigo rubblizing technique.
Cost savings: £100,000 saved by the
main contractor on a 5,600 sq. m. reconstruction project.
Recycling: 1,700 tons of reinforced
concrete pavement.
Environmental issues: A reduction of 80
no. 32 ton tipper movements on the highway, resulting in considerable saving
in time and disruption to road users, the general public and residential
properties.
