Apron Services

Providing Quality Service and Care

Apron Services, an independent ramp handling company operating at the major South African airports, will shortly be entering the most exciting phase of it’s six-year existence. The long awaited privatization process, which has been on the cards for the past 18 months, is soon to speed up with the awarding of a 10 year operating licence by Airports Company South Africa (ACSA). A number of potential buyers have already been in contact with Apron Services’ parent company, Transnet. It is expected that the successful purchaser will be able to not only confirm that Apron Services maintains its dominant position in the South African ramp handling market, but also ensure that Apron Services expands into other areas of ground handling.

In order to be completely ready for the privatization process, Apron Services has embarked on a major project to reinforce a service culture with the company’s 1500+ employees. This project, which is to be completed by the end of the third quarter of this year, will ensure that Apron Services lives up to its vision of providing 100% service to all of its clients.

Apron Services is proud to be a South African company and continuously strives to ensure that staff are developed to their fullest potential through innovative training programmes. Courses especially designed to accommodate local conditions and employment legislation will help to ensure that well-trained and motivated employees are retained and developed. This has the added benefit of ensuring that the best staff in the industry service the company’s clients.

More than 50 scheduled and ad-hoc carriers are currently handled by Apron Services at the four major South African airports. The company provides turn-key handling for all charter flight requirements –our charter clients include most of the foreign diplomatic aircraft visiting our shores.

South Africa has seen a tremendous increase in cargo-only operations and Apron Services is ideally placed to cater for the needs of this growing market segment. We run 24 hour operations from the three international airports – Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town. Due to our expertise and experience, Apron Services is the first choice service provider for such events as the meeting of the heads of state for the Non Aligned Movement as well as for the Commonwealth heads of state held recently in Durban.

Several operators have also benefited from our ability to provide services at other, smaller South African airports where these services are not usually provided. This service is particularly popular among heads of state not wishing to use the commercial airports.

Scheduled flights are handled with ease, a structured equipment placement policy ensures that Apron Services has state-of-the-art equipment available at each of the airports it serves. We are able to handle anything from a Jetstream J41 to the latest B777-300 while providing carriers with the highest levels of consistent service delivery.

We at Apron Services look forward to the demanding new century, comfortable in the knowledge that any carrier’s expectations on service levels will be met and that we will continue to provide warm African hospitality to all our clients.
