The Norwegian company Arcus is one of the Nordic Countries’ largest suppliers and producer of spirits and wine. New products are continuously being developed to meet the customers’ requirements of quality and variation. However, being a Norwegian company, Arcus also preserves Norwegian cultural heritage through production of aquavit and other spirits according to old recipes, the oldest one dating back to 1821.
One of the proudest among these brands is Linie Aquavit that is famous for its unique voyage, a tradition which has played a significant role in the maturation of Linie Aquavit for more than 200 years.
Linie Aquavit has long been the national spirit of Norway and among the flagships in the portfolio of Arcus. However, with more than 80 years of experience as supplier and producer of spirits and wine, Arcus has a widely diverse portfolio including international premium brands such as Braastad cognac and Vikingfjord Vodka.
As well as Linie Aquavit, these brands are being exported to a wide range of countries, for instance Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Germany and the USA. Vikingfjord Vodka has – despite the fact that the US market is usually described as the toughest vodka market in the world - within few years has become one of the largest imported vodka brands with a volume growth of approximately 30% in 2008.
44% of the company’s total sales take place outside of Norway. The export ratio is increasing every year, and Arcus has the goal to become the leading supplier of spirits and wine to the Nordic Region as well as to key international markets.
Besides the substantial export Arcus holds a strong position in the domestic market with a market share of 34%.
Like all Norwegian aquavit, Linie Aquavit is matured in sherry casks from Spain. The sherry casks imparts refined and well balanced aromas to the alcohol and creates a smoother and less ‘spirited’ flavour to the final product compared to other aquavits.
Linie Aquavit is undergoing a two-step maturation process originating in the cellars of Arcus for approximately 12 months and then further maturation in sherry casks for four months, transported across the equator and back on the deck of Ocean going ships.
Vikingfjord Vodka is made with 100% pure glacial water from the pristine Jostedal glacier in Arctic Norway. Based on an authentic Norwegian recipe, Vikingfjord Vodka is made from premium Norwegian potato spirit, five column distilled for at refined and smooth taste. Every drop is then expertly blended with 100% smooth, crystal clear glacial water.
Many years of experience, as well as unsurpassed purity combined with uncompromising Norwegian quality, makes the purest vodka.
Sverre Braastad left his home in Norway with nothing but his good name, arriving in Cognac, France in 1899. On the banks of the Charente River, he fell in love with and married Edit Rousseau, daughter and heiress of the Cognac Tiffon distillers. Together they made the House of Tiffon into one of the largest family-owned producers in Cognac.
The Braastad family still harvests grapes and produces wine for the distillation of their noble cognacs. These are then matured in old oak casks in dark cellars on the borders of the Charente River, ensuring unrivalled quality.
The Braastad range has on several occasions received gold and silver medals in both International Wine and Spirit Competition and International Spirit Challenge in London, rewarded for its excellent taste.
