Aston Science Park is managed by Birmingham Technology Limited (BTL).
BTL aims to create wealth and employment by providing facilities for
the establishment and rapid growth of high-technology companies,
which can benefit from University expertise, the business support
services and management skills of BTL, and interaction with other companies
within Aston’s creative community.
Opened in February 1983, Aston was one of the new generations of UK
Science Parks and today is acknowledged throughout the world as a
leading innovator in Science Park developments.
Aston Science Park is located in the heart of Birmingham on an
attractively landscaped 65 acre campus which it shares with its neighbour
and partner Aston University, the park itself occupying 22 acres.
The Science Park is committed to providing support to assist in the
ongoing development and success of its tenants. To facilitate this process
it has in place a business development team focused on the delivery of a
fully integrated business support programme delivered by the team or through
a wide range of partner organisations. This programme is focused on
providing value-added services not only to the Science Park tenants but also
partners and companies in the wider business community.
Through its business management skills and network of partner
organisations both in the UK and across Europe, the Science Park is able to
provide access to a wide range of business development opportunities.
Through its relationships with Technology Organisations, Higher
Education Institutions (HEIs), finance providers and
business support providers, the Science Park is able to offer companies
access to a range of services in support of the needs of both early stage
developing companies and existing organisations.
BTL’s business development activities have extended to the formation of
specific programmes derived from its understanding of the needs of
knowledge based SME’s. These include projects such as
technology transfer project, Project Novus, optical
communications technology project, Photonics Cluster (UK) and
ICT project, iCentrum, all based on the Science Park.
Access to intellectual resources, recruitment opportunities and technical
equipment is facilitated within Aston University’s Business Partnership
Unit located on the Science Park. Similar access also extends to the
University of Central England, Birmingham University and other
regional resources, including DERA, through BTL contacts. The
proximity of Aston University also enhances the availability of sports,
recreational and cultural facilities open to Science Park
company employees. BTL has always recognised the importance of maintaining a
dynamic community of development oriented companies: this proactive role is
a recognised part of Aston Science Park's international reputation.
The next stage of the plan is an ambitious expansion to create a 60-acre
Aston Triangle campus integrated with Aston University. The first
major phase of the development consists of four blocks of premium
multi-storey office space linked with a glazed atrium. The development
fronts onto Woodcock Street, overlooking Gosta Green University Square at
the heart of Aston Triangle, and is ideal for research companies looking for
a Science Park location alongside Aston University and its
facilities.
