Overview
Backström & Co offers legal services in all fields of business law. We focus on industrial property and copyrights, where the lawyers of the firm have experience and knowledge for over decades. Along with the development of technology and especially communication technology the field of industrial property rights has widened to cover IP law besides the more traditional fields of patent, trademark, model and copyright law.

Moreover, the firm offers advice in the field of general business law, especially contract law, competition and corporate law. The firm is also involved in civil litigations and arbitrations.

The firm was founded in 1993 by Mr. Peter Backström, who, at the time, had an experience of some 20 years as a lawyer focused on the referenced fields. According to the principles of the firm mandates are handled upon a personal responsible basis and direct communication. A personal, expedient and dynamic service is facilitated by the small size of the firm, and the know-how is guaranteed by the specialization on certain niches of business law.

Backström & Co has, during its existence, reached a stable position as a first rate law firm, gaining special recognition within the field of IP. The firm holds referrals in several international publications, i.e. European Legal 500, Global Counsel 3000 and Global Counsel Life Sciences Industry Report as one of the leading firms in Finland over a number of years within the said sector.

Internationalisation
The work is characterized by an international touch. Approximately half of the mandates are received from abroad. The firm offers services in English and German besides the Nordic languages.

We have handled several litigations on behalf of large multinationals, and advised such clients on other legal matters. We have also advised specialized small and middle size companies on various matters. A large part of the national clients is active on the international field.

Backström & Co is a part of Eurojuris International EEIG, which comprises of a network covering 19 countries through 700 firms and almost 4000 lawyers. This channel offers direct access to the knowledge of foreign legislations and facilitates a total administration of international mandates.

One cornerstone for the Eurojuris organization is the quality of the members. In this respect continuous education and follow-up is observed. This firm fulfils all the set quality standards.

The local Eurojuris organization comprises of 6 member firms. The co-operation on a national level promotes an efficient utilization of the specific fields of each member firm.

Backström & Co and its lawyers are members in several national and international organizations such as IBA, AIPPI, INTA, ECTA etc.

Specialization
Within the fields of specialization we continuously undergo updating, upgrading and education in order to meet the requirements of a proficient and high quality service. Along with the internationalisation of legal matters a knowledge of the national law is not sufficient. Consequently one of the objectives of focusing is the knowledge of European legislation and legal practise. In this respect the input of the Eurojuris organization is considerable, especially through the activities of member groups concentrating on specific fields of law.
