The business of aircraft Ground Handling Services in India is just under 50 years old.
Formerly, carriers that wished to out source the handling functions could only choose between the two National Carriers i.e. Indian Airlines (now known as Indian) and Air- India.
Here also, the Ground Handling Services offered were limited to actual flight handling confined to passenger services, cargo on load and offload and ramp handling. Back offices, Lost and Found baggage (World Tracer activity) were not part of the services offered.
Mr. Kersi Cambata the Chairman of the Cambata Group of companies, endowed with foresight and vision, saw the tremendous potential of offering Ground Handling Services to International Carriers seeking excellence in customer service.
Cambata Aviation commenced offering Ground Handling services from 1967. Our first customer was British Airways and they continue to be one of our premier customers. The Ground Services started with the 'Meet and Greet' facility to those airlines that needed special care to be taken of their special category passengers. These included passengers who were incapacitated and needed wheelchair assistance, children travelling alone – unaccompanied minors, the commercially important passenger – C.I.P. and the like.
Slowly but steadily our guaranteed performance levels were noticed and airlines negotiated with Cambata Aviation to outsource other services such as Check in, Baggage Tracer, Cargo acceptance and unitization, Flight Dispatch, Weight & Balance, Ramp, Cabin Appearance, and Clearance of Company Stores & Mail.
With our success in the services mentioned above at Mumbai, it was decided to expand our business activities to Delhi. Today Cambata Aviation has a workforce of 2200 employees at Mumbai and 1800 employees in Delhi. Offers comprehensive Ground Handling Services including manning the customer airlines back offices to completing all pre and post flight activities after departure of the flight for 22 international customer airlines at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport Mumbai and Indira Gandhi International Airport New Delhi.
Cambata Aviation also provides comprehensive Ground Handling Services to Non-Scheduled and Executive Aircraft Operators
Recently we have been privileged to service the President of the United States’ aircraft, Air Force One, and the aircraft carrying the Chinese President.
Our inventory of equipment is impressive; we own all the ground support equipment that is used. We have a systematic approach for replacing the imported ageing ground support equipments. Where necessary, online bidding is also participated upon.
We are members of the IATA – IGHC and an approved company for provision of Ground Handling Services. We are keen on broadening our horizons by participating in engaging opportunities of ground handling at other Indian airports.
