With
more than 20 years experience, Cambridge Health & Weight Plan offers a
range of weight management programmes, which can be suited to fit around every
lifestyle. Few, if any, diets have been subjected to more rigorous scientific
validation. It has indeed been tried and tested and is now trusted by millions
as a reliable and safe way to manage weight.
At the core of all of these programmes is the Cambridge Diet, a formula food, which can be used as a complete, nutritionally balanced substitute for normal food (VLCD: Very Low Calorie Diet) or in conjunction with a sensible eating plan (LCD: Low Calorie Diet). It is available in a variety of formats, including shakes, soups, meal bars or ready-to-drink cartons, and in a range of tasty flavours.
The programmes range from 415kcal to over 1500 kcal per day and include
preparation, weight loss, stabilisation and maintenance phases. Nutritionally
complete VLCDs are established as a safe and effective method of weight loss,
particularly useful in patients who have struggled on conventional diet regimes,
including those patients that suffer from diabetes, hypothyroidism, polycystic
ovary syndrome and impaired mobility. The Cambridge Diet provides a unique
combination of dietary products and counselling support. All programmes are
overseen by a company-trained and accredited Cambridge Counsellor, who offers
support, motivation and advice from the initial consultation through the weight
loss phase and on to long-term weight maintenance.
For those working in Primary and Secondary Care environments, Cambridge offers a network of regionally based PriSec Counsellors who are available to visit individual practices or clinics to deliver the weight management programmes to self-referring patients. Alternatively the health care professional can refer individual patients to the PriSec Counsellor, where they will be seen one-to-one on a weekly basis. In consultation with a Counsellor, the patient will be able to choose the right programme for them and their lifestyle. The health care professional can be kept informed of progress at all stages.
The programmes' efficacy is further demonstrated by the results of the "Reshape Study" - a randomised controlled trial undertaken by the University of Teesside comparing the use of a range of Cambridge Diet programmes with the care patients usually receive in a Primary Care environment.
Since 1984, more than 20 million people have used the Cambridge Diet worldwide. People who have successfully lost weight on Cambridge have recently been featured in a number of national women's magazines, national newspapers and on GMTV. Cambridge Health & Weight Plan also sponsors the Diabetes UK Weight Management Pack and Counsellors already work with referrals from a number of Primary Care Trusts throughout the country.
