This vision is driven by the mandate, mission and core values of the CFC, which ultimately strives to:
South Africa currently shares co-production treaties with Italy, Canada, Germany and most recently the United Kingdom. We also have a Memorandum of Understanding with India. South Africa also has various tax incentives that are applicable to the film industry in particular so as to promote filming in South Africa. www.capefilmcommission.co.za provides assistance with a range of informative documents ranging from finance incentives to a database of companies and individuals offering their services to the film industry.
South African crews are internationally renown for being the most cost effective, talented and hard working English speaking crew available anywhere in the world. Most crew work through a handful of crew agencies. The Western Cape offers over 3000 varying services to the film industry ranging from location scouts, production companies and post production facilities of an international standard. You can find a list at the Cape Film Commission website: www.capefilmcommission.co.za/directory.asp
The Western Cape is unique in it’s great multitude of cultures and colourful faces from the African, Cape Malay, to Indians (South Africa being the biggest settlement of Indians in the world outside of India) Oriental and European. South Africa has an amazing showcase of modelling and acting talent that can be viewed through our professional modelling and casting agencies.
The Western Cape presents almost unlimited opportunities for filming. The Cape Town region offers widely diverse geographical and architectural locations within a short distance of the international airport. Shoots in the Western Cape have recreated everything from a Roman Coliseum, St Helena in the time of Napoleon's exile, a Hong Kong street market, a Paris fashion show, an Australian sporting stadium, South Beach Miami, 1960's London as well as numerous other generic American cities. We have Alpine mountains and lakes, tropical-style beaches and rocky coastlines, rolling wheat fields and mysterious forests. We have quaint English cottages, industrial plants and areas of startling physical beauty.
The sun is shining for fourteen hours a day in the Cape in the middle of the European winter. This means that European commercial and catalogue shoots can create their summer campaigns here and have them “on the shelves” in time for the European summer. It’s a win-win situation.
