Capewell Components Co. LLC, www.capewell.com, established 1881, is located in South Windsor, Connecticut. Capewell designs, manufactures and distributes Life Support, Aerial Delivery, Mission Planning and Training products internationally.

The Life Support Division has been supplying the United States military forces with our Capewell Parachute Releases for over 60 years and continues this tradition with Ripcords, Cable Assemblies and Parachute Hardware for worldwide military forces. The Capewell (Frost) Canopy Release is used on the F-16, F-22, F-35, B1, B2 and the Joint Primary Aircraft Trainer System (JPATS) aircraft. This division also manufactures Emergency Descent Devices for ground evacuation from wide-body aircraft configurations such as the C-5, Boeing 747, 757, 767, 787 and the Airbus 300, 310 and 380. Other specialty products include Fast Rope with or without the Fast Rope Insertion/ Extraction System (FRIES) loops and Special Patrol Insertion/Extraction (SPIE) ropes.

Capewell’s Aerial Delivery Division manufactures Type V Aerial Delivery Platforms, Precision Airdrop Systems, (The Affordable Guided Airdrop System, [AGAS]), and external (helicopter) lift equipment, for worldwide military and humanitarian operations. The state-of-the-art Type V Heavy Duty Extruded Aluminum Airdrop Platform was developed by the U.S. DoD to replace the A/E 29H-1 (LAPES) and the Type II (LVAD) airdrop platforms. Because of its durability and survivability, it is now used in the US and many other nations for low velocity airdrops from all cargo aircraft types equipped with the 463L-type rail system (C-130, A-400M, C-5, C-27J, C-17), and LAPES from the C-130, C-17 and C-27J aircraft. The platform is available in vented and non-vented configurations.

Capewell also produces specialty items such as Towplates commonly used for the Low Altitude Parachute Extraction System (LAPES) airdrops.

Another specialty item is the CDS Buffer Stop Assemblies (BSA) used as a 3-g forward cargo restraint for airdropping A-22 containers. It rolls onto the aircraft easily and locks into place using the 463L compatible rail system. It is collapsible and stores away efficiently.

The Capewell Center Vertical Restrain System (CVRS) permits airdrop of up to eight A-22 containers from both sides of the C-130. Each container can be rigged and airdropped in a single pass, for a total of 16 individual containers, or all dropped simultaneously. The CVR was designed to accommodate 48-inch plywood skid-boards. However, 48-inch by 53.5-inch and 48-inch by 96-inch plywood skid-boards may be airdropped with the CVR installed by rotating the skid-board(s) 90 degrees to allow the 48-inch side to fit between the CVR and the aircraft dual rails.

We also manufacture the C-17 Dual Row Airdrop System (DRAS) Platforms and Outrigger Assemblies. The outrigger assembly is designed to extend the landing foot print of the Type V platform and reduces/eliminates roll-over of high centre of gravity vehicles and cargo in airdrops on rough terrain.

Capewell’s Mission Planning Division is the exclusive international distributor of the Planning Systems Incorporated (PSI) Joint Precision Airdrop System (JPADS-MP) used by the US Air Force, UK RAF and Australian Air Force for precision high altitude aerial delivery. Additionally, Capewell is the exclusive international distributor for Collaboration Technologies Inc. flagship product ctMPS, which bridges the gap between Portable Flight Planning Software, PFPS, and what the Warfighter really needs: easy-to-use software that allows true collaboration between mission planners to accomplish complex missions.

Capewell’s Training Division offers a series of courses in Airdrop Load & Fabrication, Parachute Packing and Joint Inspection. Additionally, we provide Precision Aerial Delivery courses for AGAS and JPADS-MP, as well as Airdrop Load Development and certification.
