The Expectations of a Capital City Realised
The Development & European Affairs service of Cardiff Council assists and encourages
both inward investment and the growth of indigenous businesses. Whilst dedicated
to keeping Cardiff a vibrant business occasion and a premier location for inward
investment, the Council has not ignored the local business scene. The Cardiff
Business Services initiative was not designed to replace other services available
to businesses but to promote and complement them. Moreover it aims to bring
to the attention of local companies the many services that can be accessed through
the local authority – services which in the past businesses were unaware of
or were perceived as not relevant to business needs.
Cardiff Council offers
a wide range of business services, which are readily available and cover a diverse
range of assistance. Through the Development & European Affairs service we want
to ensure that your business has access to the very best advice and professional
help available. The Business Development section will provide confidential help
and advice to assist most of your business projects. In certain circumstances
grant aid may be available to enable your business to expand, to employ more
personnel or to safeguard the jobs that already exist. These grants, together
with other forms of financial support, are promoted as part of Business Connect
activities, of which the authority is a consortia partner.
A range of workshop accommodation is available to assist smaller companies seeking
a suitable working location. This includes starter units managed as part of
Cardiff Business Technology Ltd, located on the Capital Business Park Cardiff
at Wentloog, to the east of the city, with unit sizes ranging from 900 sq. ft.
up to 2,500 sq. ft. The Capital Business Park Cardiff is now available - a 75
acre (approx. 33 hectare) site dedicated to a range of uses in the science,
technology and food sectors. The Cardiff Portfolio via its website provides
details of office and industrial premises available throughout the capital,
and also includes comprehensive property investment information. In addition,
the Council is able to provide advice and guidance on recruitment issues and
put your business in contact with people looking for work through its contacts
within local communities and other agencies. It can also help develop customised
courses to meet specific business needs through its partners in the training
provider community. Local centres are available for your business to use for
events connected with recruitment.
