CEZ Group - the leading utility in Central and South-eastern Europe

CEZ is the leading Central European utility with almost 7 million customers and generation portfolio over 14,300 MW of installed capacity. Apart from the production and sale of electricity, CEZ Group also deals in telecommunications, informatics, nuclear research, planning, construction and maintenance of energy facilities, mining raw materials, and processing energy by-products, and currently belongs among the three largest heat suppliers in the Czech Republic. Its market capitalization exceeds 30 billion EUR.

Today, CEZ Group belongs among 10 of the largest energy companies in Europe, both in terms of installed capacity and number of customers.

Within Europe, CEZ Group is the most profitable and at the same time the least indebted power company. Excellent economic results are a logical outcome of fulfilling the company strategy based on successful acquisitions in South-eastern Europe, cost optimization and output orientation.

In addition to its home base in the Czech Republic, the CEZ Group is active in 10 countries of Central and South-eastern Europe (CSEE).

CEZ Group currently operates 2 nuclear power plants, 15 coal-fired power plants in the Czech Republic, 3 coal-fired power plants abroad, 34 hydropower plants, including 3 pumped storage plants, and 1 photovoltaic power plant.

As a result of huge environmental investments, which in the case of CEZ Group are the highest of any other Czech company, the group (including hydropower and nuclear facilities) fulfils the most stringent EU standards.

The Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant

The Dukovany NPP is situated in South Moravia. There are installed four pressurized-water reactors of Type VVER 440 - Model V 213, each generating 440 MW. It supplies annually approx. 13 TWh of electricity to the national grid. In view of the high quality of its main structural components, an extension of its service life by ten years, i. e. to the total of forty years of operation is being considered.

Temelin Nuclear Power Plant

The Temelin NPP is situated in the South Bohemia. Electricity is generated in two production units with VVER 1000 Type V 320 pressurized-water reactors. With its 2,000 MW of installed capacity Temelin is the largest power resource in the Czech Republic. Technological schema of the power station corresponds to the latest world parameters. By putting both production units into operation, together with the Dukovany NPP, the share of CEZ nuclear resources in the country’s electricity production has increased to 42.5 %. Both Czech Nuclear Power plants save 17 millions tons of CO2 each year.

Nuclear energy today and tomorrow

By the end of 2007, the total number of six nuclear reactors at Temelin and Dukovany NPPs had experienced over 93 reactor-years of safe and reliable operation. During their operation, they produced over 346 million MWh of electricity.

The Czech Republic has a long history and tradition of nuclear power generation on which it may build and grow.

In the middle of 2007, the Temelin NPP saw the launch of a long-term project aimed

At operation improvement entitled SAFELY 15 TERA, which refers to safe and reliable yearly output of 15 TWh of electricity. Similar approach has been chosen at the Dukovany NPP, too, which launched the project SAFELY 16 TERA planned to be finished in 2013.

On Friday 11 July 2008, CEZ submitted to the Ministry of the Environment a request for EIA to be carried out for potential completion of the units 3 and 4 of the Temelin Nuclear Power Plant.
