Computacenter
is the largest UK-owned company specialising in the provision of distributed
IT systems and services to large corporate and public sector organisations.
The company provides a full range of value added services at each stage of
the technology life cycle; from the planning and requisition of appropriate
technology, through its implementation within a company’s existing
infrastructure to its subsequent support and management. This modular
offering is designed to give customers the flexibility to choose one,
several or all of the services as, and when, required. Of the FTSE top
100 companies, over half are Computacenter customers, these are served
by a network of 30 branch offices across the UK, France, Germany and Belgium
and, through the international joint venture ICG, at locations throughout
Europe, Asia Pacific and North America.
As a services organisation, Computacenter is not about to
come up with the next generation of chips, computers, or communication
devices. Its success is largely due to the fact that from the start it has
recognised the need for constant innovation and adaptation to meet the
changing needs of its customers. That in turn has involved a fresh approach
to the possibilities and scope of a service company.
No
better expression of that attitude can be found than the launches in 1999,
of The iGroup, the company’s e-business division, and of Biomni, a 50:50
venture with long term partner Computasoft, to offer business-to-business
e-commerce solutions to customers across the world. Biomni is also
accelerating the development of Computacenter’s On-Trac electronic
procurement system, already used by over 550 of its customers. The system
spans the entire procurement chain from product choice to order placing,
tracking and fulfilment.
Biomni and The iGroup are just the latest in a series of
major investments aimed at keeping the company at the cutting edge. Its
logistics and configuration centre in Radlett was the largest of its kind in
Europe when it opened back in 1990. Since then the company has continued to
ensure it stays ahead of the curve, building a new, 20 acre headquarters and
operations centre in Hatfield, Hertfordshire to cater for continuing
expansion and increasing customer demand.
