| Special adjuster systems |
As engineers working for Germany’s largest and most demanding automotive manufacturers, we, at CRH are well aware that quality is the absolute priority. Our main activity is the manufacture of adjuster systems, mainly for steering columns, seats, head-restraints, etc,. Many major manufacturers have grown to rely on us for our expertise and the development skills of our technicians and designers in this highly specialised area. Our prime criteria is that no innovation should be put into series production until it fulfils the requirements of improving efficiency and safety for the millions of drivers, Worldwide, who benefit from the use of our products on a regular, daily basis.
Driving our technology is the knowledge that all over the World, teams of statisticians and scientists are busily striving to fit us all into nicely, regulated boxes - whether in terms of clothing sizes, living standards or behavioural types. But, our dedicated belief, confirmed by years of experience in our specialised area, is that this is not appropriate when it comes to designing vehicles around Mr or Mrs Average. Irrespective of whether people have exceptionally long legs, are small in stature, heavily built, petite, or whatever, they all expect - and in our view, deserve - the right to an ergonomically correct, comfortable and above all, safe seating position. Basically, it is our prime role to develop intelligently designed solutions for the whole range of potential car occupants.
So, the CRH product-range takes into account both the requirements of the motorist, in terms of safety, durability and comfort and those of the vehicle manufacturer in terms of viability, ease of manufacture and installation. Usually, task-oriented, professional development work begins with a vision or and idea. These same principals applied just as appropriately, to Gottlieb Daimler’s revolutionary powered vehicle around one hundred years ago, as to the idea of child seats designed to set new standards for the smallest passengers of vehicles today.
One challenge is the need to research into the appropriate use of new materials and technologies. Then, there are the down-to-earth practicalities of converting great ideas into everyday products capable of series production. It is worth noting that the quality of our work at CRH and the level of innovation involved are constantly underlined by the large number of international patents and the trust of our licensees all around the World.
When it comes to the quality of CRH products, we have some rigid principles. Firstly, no design is allowed to leave the engineering department until it fulfils all the requirements . Secondly, no product is used in series production until it has been rigorously tested - by man and by computer . In the final analysis, it is the specialists in the prototype shop and the test laboratories who have the job of testing every aspect of a product’s mechanical and physical properties - even at extremes of climate, whether in the Sahara or the Antarctic.
Right at the beginning of the planning stage for a new product, the individual costs of all work stages and manufacturing steps are determined in detail, in advance, calculated down to the tiniest detail. Series production at CRH is characterised by fully-automated, product-specific manufacturing systems. In-house machine-engineering and manufacture for quality-critical production and assembly systems ensures optimum capacity and availability.
Part of our philosophy is that while we believe ‘trust’ between a customer and ourselves, is essential, Quality Management is even better. This philosophy allows us, quite simply, to make the principle of zero manufacturing defects a declared company aim - together with that of evolving new ways of making vehicles lighter, more efficient and safer.
