Logistics support is a strategic matter considering its operational,
financial and industrial impact. DCN (the major French Shipbuilder of
military vessel for French Navy) which is in charge of the life cycle
support of the French Navy vessels, can prevail an extensive competence in
the related field as it constitutes around 30 % of its industrial activity.
DCN Log has been created by DCN in 1994, in order to organize and develop the long term logistic support of the ships built by the DCN and sold to foreign navies. Today, DCN Log supports more than 20 navies and tens of ships and combat systems all around the world. The turn over of DCN Log in 2003 is 48 millions euros for a staff of 270 persons entirely dedicated to logistic support.
DCN Log is involved in both initial logistics during the development and construction phase of the ships and in the in-service logistics after ship delivery and till her decommissioning. DCN Log objective is to maintain and manage the industrial network and the technical expertise to be capable to answer to our customer needs during this long period.
During the construction phase, DCN Log is responsible of the development and the production of the complete ILS package for the whole ship. For this purpose, DCN Log performs the following activities:

DCN Log permanently invests to develop new logistic concepts and services
based on new technologies. In particular, DCN Log is right now developing a
life cycle support based ILS concept. The aim of this concept is to produce
an information system, a spare parts organization and maintenance planning
fully and immediately adapted to the specific requirements, organization and
procedures of each of our customers. This will drastically simplify:
DCN Log is also in charge of in-service phase and its main activities in this business area are:
The diversity of DCN Log’s customers is important. Indeed, it has been performing logistics support of more than twenty navies; including countries such as Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Spain, Chile, Norway, Turkey, Pakistan, Malaysia, etc. Though it has been long working for the French Navy as a sub-contractor, DCN Log has recently been involved as prime contractor. For all the programs it’s been working on, DCN Log has performed either initial or in-service logistics or most of the time both.
DCN Log expertise covers all the ship and systems as it manages and performs the logistics support of:
The logistic information system modernization and overhaul answers to lots of Navies concerns at that time. Indeed, most of the Navies are facing discrepancies between the status of their documentation configuration data and maintenance and the reality observed on-board. This service includes the collection, organization and if necessary up-dating of the existing technical data to make it consistent with the system configuration, the use profile and the maintenance plan. DCN Log uses compatible tools, notably:
Since
DCN Log works on initial and in-service logistic, it takes a great benefit
of synergies between these two business areas.
From a technical point of view, the experience feed-back from in-service logistic is used to improve the initial logistics of new project. On the other hand, the involvement of DCN Log in the initial logistics is a source of innovation for in-service logistics in the fields of new maintenance concepts and high tech products.
From an organizational point of view, the continuous involvement of DCN Log from the construction phase to the decommissioning avoids a break up in the working teams and then maintain the working procedures and the confidence established during the construction phase.
Being fully involved in the ILS from the birth of a naval project till the decommissioning of the ships, DCN Log will remain your logistic partner … for a long time.
