Domodedovo passenger flow

In 2001 Domodedovo airport was the leader among Moscow airports in terms of passenger and cargo growth rates. The success was due to the completion of airport facilities reconstruction and gradual improvement in quality of service. Several domestic and foreign airlines transferred their Moscow flights to Domodedovo. The forecast for 2002, based on the current trends of Domodedovo airport operators passenger flow growth, states that in 2002 Domodedovo passenger flow will exceed 6,8 millions.

Domodedovo airport ownership

All the airport facilities are managed by EAST LINE Group, which became a strategic investor at Domodedovo airport. In 1995 - 2002 EAST LINE invested $ 350 millions in reconstruction and modernization of the airport facilities.

Airport facilities

Domodedovo airport has the modern Passenger Terminal, which is classified according to "C" ICAO category. The hourly capacity of international and domestic sectors is 1100 and 2100 passengers respectively. Due to the operation of modern terminal facilities - automated check-in counters, passenger examination equipment, boarding airbridges, baggage conveyer belts, baggage carousels, etc. - the time needed to pass all the formalities (30 minutes) corresponds to the world-class standards. The passengers hand in their baggage before customs formalities. The airport services handle the baggage of the transfer passengers. State-of-the-art information technologies were implemented at the airport.

Today Domodedovo has the airfield with two parallel independent runways with hourly capacity of 75 operations.

Domodedovo Aircraft Maintenance Base is the leading enterprise in the field of maintenance and overhaul of Russian type aircraft. In close collaboration with Boeing EAST LINE is currently implementing the project establishing first Russian centre for aircraft maintenance of Western type aircraft.

Handling Services Agent

EAST LINE Handling (ELH) is the first Russian airport agent responsible for handling agreements, clearing, claims and supervision. The airlines operating at the airport sign General Agreement with ELH covering all types of services provided by the airport.

Ground Transportation Infrastructure

Domodedovo is connected with Moscow by 22 km lighted highway with no traffic jams. Also it is the only Moscow airport with a direct railroad connection to the centre of Moscow. In compliance with the world practice the passengers may check-in for domestic flights and hand in their baggage at Paveletsky railway station in order to reduce the time needed to pass the formalities.

Potential for becoming an International Hub

According to the international experts of Schiphol Group Domodedovo is the only reasonable option for a hub airport in Moscow area. Due to the large airfield capacity and modern passenger terminal for servicing international and domestic flights Domodedovo is capable to organize a large number of connections between flights with transfer time varying from 40 to 70 minutes.

Domodedovo is situated relatively far from densely populated areas and has no limitations for aircraft operations during 24 hours.

The airport has the potential for airfield expansion and passenger terminal enlargement. The reserved area of 2950 hectares allows for building 6 additional runways.

According to Domodedovo Master Plan EAST LINE Group is planning the construction of the two additional wings to the northeast and southwest of the existing terminal. The hourly capacity of the terminal will reach 8 000 passengers.

The optimistic forecasts of the aviation activity in Moscow area point out that the Domodedovo passenger flow will exceed 11 million in 2005 and 20 million in 2015. By that time Domodedovo will become an international hub covering more than 55% of the total Moscow passenger flow.
