EAQA is the sector certification body for the Energy sector and belongs to the UK Power Industry. www.eaqa.demon.co.uk
Its roots go back to 1972 when the UK Electricity Industry first introduced the concept of Quality System certification to its purchasing process.
Additionally during this period assessment processes were also developed for the Nuclear Generation part of the industry, which implemented Quality Assurance programs as part of their operational management. Quality Assurance programs are event driven and require the consideration of risk and process route analysis.
In the late 80's the industry introduced the concept of Environmental management for Power Generation to meet the requirements of BS 7750 and developed assessment and certification processes.
EAQA has certificated more than 20 nuclear sites to ISO 14000 for Environmental Management.
Through this considerable depth of experience EAQA has developed the most advanced audit techniques of any certification body. Audit techniques which recognise the need to give a high level of added value.
Both ISO 9000 - 2000 and ISO 14000 require the analysis of a companies management process in order to identify the key events that need to be controlled to meet the overall objectives of the process.
Through this requirement and the need to establish objectives for improvement, a management process is developed to meet the needs of the company not just the certification body.
Because of EAQA's closeness to a major sector of industry its practices and procedures are developed and continually reviewed to meet the needs of the Energy sector.
EAQA's scope of activities now encompass major industrial sectors who supply to the Energy Industry

After more than 10 years of accredited certification industries around the world are questioning the type of certification that has been offered in the past and are now demanding that certification must be added value or they will look to other processes.
The EAQA Performance Partnership approach assures clients that their certificate is more than a piece of paper, it represents a long term business relationship where value is added.
The International Accreditation Forum Guide 62 now being implemented by EAQA allows a degree of flexibility in giving advice " adding value during an assessment and surveillance visits e.g. by identifying opportunities for improvement as they become evident during an audit, without recommending a specific solution."
We believe this approach allows us to bring value to our clients by offering professional, non-prescriptive advice on improving their management systems beyond just compliance.
By recognising that people are responsible for quality not paper and procedures, the certificated quality or environmental system becomes one which management can trust to give them confidence that their implementation requirements are being adhered to.
