We aim to supply for the aluminium industry this year 250,000 tonnes of calcined petroleum coke (ELSICAR® CC) and 150,000 tonnes of graphite for smelter anodes. We can supply 125,000 tonnes of petroleum coke from our own sources and we are negotiating contracts with suppliers of petcoke in the USA, Canada, and Brazil for the difference. We produce calcined petcoke from burning the rude petcoke in rotating kilns, supplied with methane gas. It is also used as a raw material in obtaining graphite. Calcined petcoke can be used also like recarburizer for ordinary/special steel and grey/spherical cast iron, in the production of synthetic graphite, electrode paste and silicon carbide. It has a high content of carbon and low content of ash and sulphur.
Exports represent a target for us, following the strategy for this year of ELSID Company. We have already concluded a contract to supply 25,000 tonnes for the Turkish market and we will supply producers in Egypt, Azerbaijan and the Balkans. We intend to supply calcined petcoke for all the aluminium production capacity in this zone (350,000 tpa).
We produce calcined petcoke in five kilns, four in Electrocarbon Slatina and other one located in Elsid, Titu. The total capacity of the kilns is 160-170 tpd, using rude petcoke.
We produce calcined petcoke from burning the rude petcoke in rotary kilns, supplied with methane gas.

We manufacture carbon blocks and cathodes blocks for the basic aluminium production. They are made of graphite and carbon; they could be produced in three qualities: semi-graphic, graphitic or graphitized, on demand, depending on our client’s needs. Cathode blocks result from several fabrication phases. The raw material used for producing cathode blocks is calcined anthracite which is crushed, sieved and mixed, depending on the recipe.
