Fibertex in Eastern Europe

In 2004 Fibertex took over the Czech nonwovens manufacturer, Vigona, a.s., specialised in products for the automotive and filtration industry. With this acquisition Fibertex comes closer to its goal of becoming a leading European producer of drylaid nonwovens for the automotive industry. To reach such a position Fibertex intends to rely on experience gained in cost optimisation via weight reduction and big scale manufacturing gathered in the personal care industry. A new state-of-the-art line using needlepunch technology will be up and running second half 2005 featuring lamination and powder coating technology.

Key success factors in the automotive industry

Increasing fuel prices and the resulting demand for more economical vehicles make weight reduction one of the key success factors for the automotive industry today. An increasing use of aluminium and other non ferrous alloys has been the answer, but another alternative is the steadily growing use of polymers over the last 30 years. Then the average car used ~6% of polymer, today a car like the AUDI A2, which makes extensive use of polymers reaches ~23%1. The trend is furthermore noticeable both in the exterior finish, where examples of e.g. bonnet helmets made of fibre glass reinforced materials have been seen, as well as in the interior, especially for the cabin and the trunk.
