About Guideline Software
Guideline was established in 1993. Through continued
adherence to meeting the needs and wants of our clients Guideline
Software has been able to develop a leading consolidated Risk Management
and Corporate Governance system. This consolidated system was officially
released in 1997, and has steadily been gaining acceptance.
In recent
times Guideline has been assisting the banking industry with the
software and expertise necessary to implement the Basel II Capital
Accord policies. In particular the third approach, the "Internal
Measurement Approach", which is reserved for banks with the most
sophisticated risk management controls and programs in place. The
Guideline System is specifically designed to implement the "Internal
Measurement Approach".
Growth
This concept has taken off in South Africa and
has shown a steady annual growth.

Who
uses the Guideline Software system
The system is currently in use in the financial,
commercial, and industrial sectors of South Africa.
This covers brewing, communications, electronics,
construction, banking, chemical, oil, and mining, to mention a few.
The
future
Great Britain, Europe, Australia and the United States have been
identified as a further potential market for the Guideline System, as
all the requirements of the Internal Guidance of the Combined Code
(Turnbull Report as well as industry specific documents such as the
Basel II Accord in the banking sector), have been very successfully
incorporated into the system and will allow for full compliance with the
requirements. All UK listed companies require compliance, with the
code by 23 December 2000.
Expansion
As has been shown above the need for electronic risk management systems
is currently on a very aggressive expansion path. Guideline
Software recognises that in order to take advantage of this demand
services resources need to be expanded.
Resources expansion
In order to have an edge in the market place
there is a uniqueness of service that is being demanded from the client
– that is, full disclosure of information to all corners of the
corporation and the feeding of understandable information through to
Management and the Board.
Guidelines research and development division is
constantly striving toward achieving this end for each of our clients
and are currently a long way down the road to success.
Indications of market tends
In the recent “Guardrisk
Update” Volume 6 Issue 1 it was stated:
“Estimates
are that three out of four change processes in organisations fail - this
is due to companies not thinking through what they want to do and making
systems too complicated (Sunday Times, 30 Jan 2000)”
In Guideline’s experience,
computer systems are written from the programmers point of view, and not
from the viewpoint of the people who are going to be using the system,
this results in:
-
Time wastage
-
Resources wastage
-
Financial wastage
Guideline Software ensures that
it fully understands exactly what our clients need and expect from their
system before any customising of the system occurs. We than work in very
close week to week, contact with the senior project manager concerned.
Also stated in the recent
“Guardrisk Update” Volume 6 Issue 1
“The title
‘Insurance Broker” will disappear as intermediaries become freebased
risk managers rather that commission earners (International Broker,
December 1999). Moreover, 25% of UK intermediaries will disappear
over the next three years as solicitors and small high street retailers
are replaced by multi-channel Internet brokers”.
Again, through research done by
Guideline Software, global trends are showing:
-
A Hands-off Insurance advisors approach - which
means greater responsibility on the part of the company. Which equals:
-
A company - self risk management approach.
-
Education of practical risk and corporate
governance managers is becoming vital to stay ahead.
-
In-house overall control – which means central
information management.
It is the
opinion of Guideline Software that the company of the future will have
to take a leap into the world of the on-line information network,
(the WEB) and those that do not are heading for extinction.
Companies have got to adopt a
philosophy of team work and internal fast communication lines in order
to truly get Risk Management, and thereby Corporate Governance in place.
