IUV-Industrija usnja Vrhnika, d.d. is probably the world’s largest high-quality pigskin leather producer focused on developing leathers with distinctive properties manufactured in an environmentally friendly manner.

Rich tradition

The company, located near Ljubljana, Slovenia, was established more than 50 years ago while the local leather trade tradition goes back centuries. Forty years ago, the decision was made to specialise in pigskin leather production, marking a significant turning point in the company's story. Today, IUV is a public limited company with 640 employees, and markets leather and leather products in more than 40 countries, the primary markets being Italy, Turkey, Germany, Great Britain, United States, Canada, China, India, and Spain.

Innovative solutions

An effective blend of tradition, development, a modern approach, and superior production values is reflected in a wide range of high quality products that meet the highest international standards.

For a long time, we have been known for the first-class suede and fancy goods leather used by renowned designers of world-famous brands, such as GUCCI, PRADA, FENDI, FERRAGAMO etc.

Today, our production range encompasses leather intended for garments, leather goods, shoes, the automotive and furniture industries with always greater stress laid upon leather with distinctive properties, such as ECO, washable leather, anti-microbial protected leather, water/rain & stain repellent suede etc.

Unique IUV development: automotive nubuck and new nubuck

IUV is also the first company to have entered and established itself in the car industry with high-quality pigskin leather, which fully meets the high demands and strict quality standards while offering the refined, elegant characteristics of natural leather. Among IUV customers are some of the largest car producers, including AUDI.

The knowledge and experience IUV has gained over many years of developing various types of pigskin leathers have been an invaluable aid in the development of our automotive nubuck and nappa leathers, which, due to exceptionally demanding requirements and high standards, means a special challenge for any leather industry.

In line with IUV's determination to care for the environment, it has also developed chrome-free tanned automotive leather, in the production of which the use of heavy metal salts has been eliminated. It is friendly to the users and can be disposed of in an environmentally safe manner.

Quality is IUV’s main criterion

Quality of performance, production processes and products is the key element of IUV’s policy and strategy. IUV product quality is reflected in the high level of functional and aesthetic features, with considerable attention being devoted to matching our customers’ wishes, production reliability, fulfilment of obligations, and continuous improvements. Our quality management system is run in compliance with the ISO 9001:1994 standard and ISO/TS 16949: 1999 standard for the car industry, for which we have also received relevant international certifications.

Environmentally friendly technology

IUV uses technology and materials with minimal impact on the environment according to EU legislation, while also enabling the environmentally friendly use of our products. All these technological improvements and modern materials are, of course, also very user-friendly, eliminating the problems of unpleasant odours and substances that may irritate the skin.

Effective key account management

Time and again, our largest customers praise the services offered by the IUV service department. We earned our reputation by taking account of customers’ changing wants and needs as well as designers’ requirements.

Our key account managers know that to gain repeat business and to retain customers by building long term relationships, a complete understanding of their business is required.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST: Being part of the EU market, Slovenia is one of the new member states of the EU, IUV sees its advantage also in the vicinity to the European and North American markets which additionally increases its ability to complete customers’ orders at the earliest possible date.
