The engines produced in Jenbach can run on natural gas as well as on several bio- and special gases (non-natural gas), such as those from landfill sites, industry or agriculture. Whilst natural gas is used primarily in local energy production, the driving force behind the use of non-natural gas is environmentally safe disposal. The cost effectiveness of such plant is assured by the simultaneous production of energy.
The company delivered its first gas engine back in 1957 and has been working continuously since then on developing and improving this technology. Across the globe Jenbacher is today the market leader in the disposal and utilization of non-natural gas. The same applies to the most important application for Jenbacher gas engines in the natural gas field - cogeneration plants simultaneously producing energy and heat in the capacity range between 0.3 and 3.0 MW. Generator sets - producing clean energy on site - as well as engineering services and all-round service - are also sold most successfully by Jenbacher around the world.

Jenbacher AG offers preventive and corrective maintenance contracts tailored to customer needs. Such contracts offer advantages in terms of economy through simplified administration and reduced personnel counts; increased availability via regular attention from Jenbacher's stuff; budgeting for the operator with constant fixed costs and no unexpected peaks and unforeseen repairs; customer care via the exchange of experience between long-term partners spare parts supply via advanced procurement, with the additional benefit of eliminating longevity risks on a range of components; and plant modernization as technical developments are incorporated into existing plants, if needed.
Besides its headquarters and manufacturing facilities at Jenbach in the Austrian Tyrol, the Jenbacher Group has subsidiaries in Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Italy, Spain, France, Dubai UAE and the US. Jenbacher also has an international distribution and servicing network at its disposal. Jenbacher's shares have been quoted for official trading on the Vienna Stock Exchange since 1959. The company employs approximately 1.200 people.
Jenbacher succeeded in constructing the Series 4, an engine that set a new benchmark with a mechanical degree of efficiency of over 43 % and a mechanical power output of 1,450 kW in this power range. The basis for this was the success of Series 3, all the components of which were worked over, enlarged and strengthened: The J 420 GS has 20 cylinders with a bore of 145 mm and a stroke of 185 mm. This results in a total piston displacement of 61.1 litres for an engine that is distinguished by extremely high efficiency, reliability and availability.
Jenbacher aggregates are delivered as complete packages, including the control "dia.ne" (dialog network). The control and monitoring strategies utilized as well as the long-distance data transmission system ensure a further improvement of the reliability and availability of Jenbacher's engines.
Naturally the experience gained from the development of Series 4 influences the existing series as well: e.g. the engines of Series 2 (J208 GS and J212 GS) were completely worked over for the 2002 product program and a number of significant details modified. By means of optimising the combustion process these engines too have attained a clear increase in mechanical efficiency of over 40 %. This sets new standards in the output range of 300 to 500 kW.
There were also improvements made in the largest engine produced by Jenbacher AG, namely Series 6. Here the specific output of the 12 and 16-cylinder engines (J612 GS, J616 GS) was increased to the level of the 20-cylinder engine (J620 GS). Thus the new J612 GS puts out 1,685 kWm and the J616 GS even 2,250 kWm.
