Kovako was established in 1979 at Koudekerk a/d Rijn, The Netherlands, as a manufacturer of pneumatic unloading systems for alumina and heavy powders from ship to storage. But if Kovako was officially founded in 1979, the first systems were already build in the 60's, some of the first units were even on a ship and some are even still operational.

Today you can find a Kovako ship unloader almost everywhere around the globe.

FROM CRAFTSMANSHIP TO MARKET LEADER

The real turning point in the history of Kovako took place in the 90's when it was acquired by FLSmidth.

From that moment Kovako ceased to be a family-owned business to become a member of a large engineering company and industrial group. The change was immediate, from machines build as "craftsmanship", with little or no documentation to fully documented units, from a trial-and-error approach to engineering calculations and bench testing.

Together with the huge amount of know-how made available from the FLSmidth Group, Kovako gained the advantage of being part of a worldwide company which is well-known in the cement industry and has the financial means to invest in R&D. This has enabled Kovako to strengthen its market-leading position in an increasingly demanding and competitive market and to maintain a high level of technology.

Today Kovako offers a full range of standard pneumatic ship unloaders covering ship sizes from 300 dwt up to 45.000 dwt.

Besides the standard models, as an engineering company, Kovako has the knowledge to design and manufacture pneumatic ship unloaders according to specific requirements of a client.

Nowadays, in combination with the other companies in the FLSmidth Group, Kovako has expanded from delivering single equipment items as the ship unloaders to the delivery of equipment and engineering solutions for heavy powder bulk handling terminals.

The ship unloader, the storage facility and even the bagging units are all fully integrated in the engineering of the terminal and delivered as standard pieces of equipment from FLSmidth Materials Handling.
