Northern Power Systems

About Northern Power Systems
Northern Power Systems designs, builds and installs ultra-reliable electric power systems for industrial, commercial, government and military sites. Whether stand-alone or utility-tied, our systems provide optimum power and performance for the most demanding applications. Using state-of-the-art controls and power electronics, these systems incorporate thoroughly tested power generation technologies, converting energy derived from the wind, sun, and hydrogen alone or in combination with traditional sources such as oil, and gas.

For more than 25 years, Northern has provided turnkey services to fulfil the needs of diverse customers. We have installed over 800 systems on all seven continents, earning a reputation for delivering high quality, greener, and technically superior power solutions. Northern’s systems are time-tested and reliable—from the harshest and most remote locations on earth to densely populated urban sites.

Renewable Power Solutions Help Diversify Your Energy Portfolio
Northern Power Systems specialises in hybrid systems that combine renewable sources such as wind turbines and photovoltaics, with microturbines, fuel cells, and reciprocating engines powered by conventional fuels. Like bonds in a financial portfolio, our on-site renewable energy systems improve your energy portfolio by minimizing risk.

A system from Northern provides the most appropriate and cost effective solution to meet your energy priorities. We have the expertise to integrate on-site renewable energy systems with traditional grid power, while at the same time, we are a pioneer in blending the technologies that make these systems run seamlessly and cost-effectively.

Hybrid systems from Northern offer substantial benefits over both “green grid power” and renewable-only systems.

On-Site: The Next Generation of Power Systems
Northern has helped many businesses reduce operating expenses, minimise risk of power interruptions, and reduce pollution through on-site generation. If your facility meets one or more of the following criteria, it is likely a good candidate for on-site generation.

  1. Need for lower cost electricity. In areas where gas prices are favourable over utility price, an on-site system can save as much as 50% of the cost of a kWh.
  2. On-site need for heat. For plants that require heat for processes such as pasteurisation or sterilisation, Combined Heat and Power (CHP) can be extremely effective. In most cases, CHP improves the economic benefit of the project by as much as 25%. Other uses for heat by-product of generation include space heating and domestic hot water for facilities.
  3. Essential need for power reliability. Companies that can quantify the financial costs of power outages (idle workers, reduced daily production, lost product and lost customer confidence) will clearly see the benefits of dramatically diminished, if not eliminated, downtime.

In addition, on-site generation has the potential of reaching an 80% efficiency level in terms of fuel consumption versus the traditional utility efficiency of roughly 25%. This has a serious impact on reducing the total overall greenhouse gas emissions of your facility.

Integrated Power Solutions Deliver Essential Power
Northern’s Integrated Power systems provide a quality solution for today’s increasing need for highly reliable, unmanned power sources for critical infrastructure applications.

Northern has delivered systems for customers in locations where power is unavailable, unreliable or insufficient.

Whatever the application, Northern can develop an Integrated Power solution to address specific field conditions and power challenges:
