Peter
Brotherhood has been solving engineering problems for its customers for more
than 130 years. Its world-class skills in design and manufacture are
combined with real practical experience to provide technically sound and
cost-effective engineering.
From steam turbines to gas compressors, from wind turbines to combined heat and power, much of its work involves the efficient and environmentally-friendly conversion and use of energy. Its equipment is operating in over 100 countries around the world.
The company has been accredited ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards which assures the quality and environmental responsibility that you need.
Peter Brotherhood opened his first factory in London in 1867. By 1906, when the business moved to Peterborough, the product range included steam engines, dynamo-electric machines and, shortly after the move, steam turbines.
During
the 1950s, the company pioneered the use of steam turbines to turn waste
heat from ships' engines into electrical power. Peter Brotherhood has
supplied around 300 marine waste heat steam turbines, from the 200kW sets of
the 1950s to the 3.5MW sets of the 1990s.
Many Peter Brotherhood steam turbines are installed in co-generation plants with diesel engines and in combined cycle plants with gas turbines, typically improving cycle efficiency by 8 to 10% for diesel engines and 45 to 50% for gas turbines.
In 1994 Peter Brotherhood moved to a new purpose-built facility in Peterborough. Today the company comprises four strategic business units.
Brotherhood Process & Energy specialises in the design, development and supply of equipment to meet the needs of the process and energy industries. It undertakes projects ranging from the supply of a single machine through to the installation and commissioning of a complete turnkey facility.
This business unit supplies steam turbines with power outputs up to 25MW, integrating these with generators and other driven equipment from world-leading suppliers. It has considerable experience of turbine systems for combined cycle and cogeneration, district heating, industrial processes, sugar mills, oil and gas production, refineries, petrochemical plants, heat recovery and waste incineration.
It has helped customers deal with increasing environmental concerns by supplying steam turbines to exploit the potential of refuse, sewage, waste gases from offshore and petrochemical installations, biomass and other alternative fuels.
We design, manufacture and supply reciprocating, rotary screw and centrifugal compressors as complete packaged units incorporating the prime mover, gas processing plant, instrumentation and controls.
Brotherhood Aircogen's combined heat and power (CHP) systems maximise efficiency and economy in the use of energy within buildings and processes. The unique AirCHP concept directly heats building or process air with the waste heat from power generation. Energy efficiencies in excess of 95 per cent are achievable.
AirCHP is ideally suited to buildings which need electrical power and heated or cooled air throughout the year such as supermarkets, warehouses, factories, aircraft hangars and leisure centres. Process heating at air temperatures up to 300oC or higher is achieved by Brotherhood Aircogen's industrial AirCHP variant.
Brotherhood Service offers a unique combination of the experience and expertise of an original equipment manufacturer coupled with the responsiveness of a service organisation.
The company's experience extends from re-design, repair and refurbishment through to installation, commissioning and planned maintenance of a wide range of rotating machinery. It tailors its service package to meet its customers' requirements.
Brotherhood Machtech designs and manufactures numerous types of capital plant for a wide range of customers and industries. It has considerable experience of 'environmental engineering' projects such as waste recycling and renewable power generation.
Our large, modern, purpose-built plant provides a 'one stop shop' encompassing fully computerised logistics management, CAD/CAM, reverse engineering, production scheduling and shop-floor project management.
It manufactures a wide range of bespoke engineered products with a particular focus on turbine blades and nozzles, high speed gears, heavy machined components and sophisticated fabrications.
