Start with DuPont

Look to DuPont for a comprehensive range of engineering polymers and resources to help you meet needs for rugged, economical components and products. DuPont engineering polymers have proven their value for a wide range of industrial and consumer applications in automotive, electrical, electronics, appliances, business machines, sporting goods and other fields.

Performance and economy

Components made from DuPont engineering polymers can often equal or surpass the performance of parts made from metals, ceramics, thermoset resins, vulcanized rubbers and other materials. It’s because they deliver an outstanding combination of strength, toughness, heat resistance, chemical resistance and moldability. What is more, DuPont engineering polymers give you the freedom to design for both performance and cost savings.

Using injection molding or other economical thermoplastic processing techniques, they are readily transformed into multifunctional parts. Multifunctional part design can save costs by reducing part count and eliminating assembly and finishing steps.

Principal polymers amongst its portfolio include:

DuPont™ Zytel® HTN high performance polyamide

Bridging the cost/performance gap between traditional engineering plastics and higher-priced specialty polymers, DuPont™ Zytel® HTN high performance polyamide resins provide an alternative to metal and thermosets in a wide range of applications. Zytel® HTN is a prime choice for components or systems that are required to survive in hot, cold, chemically aggressive and/or load-bearing environments. Zytel® HTN is a family of resins based on partially aromatic polyamides, most of which also fall into the class of polymers known as PPAs (polyphthalamides).

DuPont™ Hytrel® TPC-ET thermoplastic polyester elastomer

Hytrel® thermoplastic polyester elastomers provide the flexibility of rubbers, the strength of plastics, and the processability of thermoplastics. Hytrel® is available in a full range of Shore D hardnesses (30D to 82D). Special grades include heat stabilized, flame retardant and blow molding. Concentrates include black pigments, UV protection additives, hydrolysis resistant additives, heat stabilizers and flame retardants.  Recently added to the portfolio are Hytrel® RS (renewably-sourced) thermoplastic elastomers, which provide all the performance characteristics of traditional Hytrel® materials, while offering a more environmentally friendly solution than petroleum-based products.

DuPont™ Delrin® acetal resin

DuPont™ Delrin® acetal homopolymer is an engineering thermoplastic with a combination of physical properties not available either in metals or other plastics. It has a well balanced profile of mechanical properties, environmental resistance and processability at moderate cost. Delrin® acetal resins provide substantial strength, stiffness and creep resistance. Since its commercial introduction by DuPont, Delrin® has gained widespread recognition for reliability of performance in many thousands of engineering components all over the world. Recent grades, with properties tailored for emerging market needs, include new low emission homopolymer grades, new low wear / low friction resins, a new toughened grade, and a new UV resistant grade.

DuPont™ Zytel® nylon resin

Since their invention by DuPont over 50 years ago, Zytel® nylon resins have been the most widely used of all engineering plastics. They are tough, withstand repeated impact, and are highly resistant to abrasion and most chemicals. Molded articles retain their shape at elevated temperatures, are strong in thin sections, and have low coefficients of friction. The most widely used Zytel® nylon resins are based on standard PA 66 and PA 6 polymers. Resins based on PA 612 absorb less moisture than standard nylons and excel in dimensional stability and chemical resistance. DuPont Zytel® Super Tough (ST) and Toughened (T) nylon resins offer the best-in-category impact resistance and flex fatigue. Other categories of Zytel® include the family of Zytel® WRF nylon resins, for enhanced low wear and friction performance, flame-retardant (FR) glass-reinforced Zytel® grades for meeting very demanding electrical requirements and Zytel® GRZ glass-reinforced nylon resin for optimum strength and excellent injection molding performance.
