PPG INDUSTRIESPPG INDUSTRIES
PPG Industries occupies a unique position within the global automotive industry. We pioneered laminated glass for windshields in 1928 and developed the first quick-drying lacquers for cars. Now, look at any vehicle, and what you see is PPG, from the glazing systems, the pre-treatments, topcoats and clear coats that cover the body, to the fillers in the tires.

AUTOMOTIVE OEM GLASS
For decades, PPG Automotive OEM Glass has partnered with major automakers throughout the world to make automotive glass that meets sophisticated design standards and performs other functions to reduce system cost, improve passenger comfort, protect the interior surfaces, provide multi-functionality, and contribute to the vehicle’s design and aesthetics.

Our Glass Technology Center provides technical and product development support that is unsurpassed in the industry. Our Automotive Technical Center houses our design, tooling and customer service operations. Both facilities contribute real solutions that provide value to vehicle manufacturers and consumers. Some of the specific solutions available from PPG Automotive OEM Glass include …

Solar Energy Management
PPG has delivered millions of Sungate® windshields to OEMs in North America, Europe and Asia. These windshields reflect IR solar energy, improving passenger comfort, protecting interior fabrics and reducing air conditioner loads.

SoleXtra Solar Control GlassAesthetics and Styling
Heat load reduction, combined with differentiating color can be achieved with a palette of glass compositions. Solargreen® glass serves as the standard absorbing glass, while Solextra® glass, the world’s premier IR-absorber, provides visual differentiation thanks to its unique aquamarine color.

Our new VistaGray™ glass combines outstanding solar control with a neutral color to enhance the appearance of vehicle interiors. VistaGray glass is well suited for combination with GL-20™and GL-35™ solar privacy glasses, which are designed for behind-the-driver positions in vans and SUVs as well as sunroofs, where dark tint is desired. This combination of aesthetics and performance allows designers to effectively use PPG auto glazing as a design element.

Visibility
Automotive OEM Glass supplies rain-repellent Aquapel® treated glass. The hydrophobic treatment supports water management by increasing the contact angle of water droplets, so that they are swept away by air flow over side windows.

PPG also provides windshields that act as “combiners” for head-up displays that align primary and secondary images to form a sharp, bright image in front of the driver.

Also, using our knowledge of low resistance, transparent conductive coatings, PPG will shortly begin delivering WeatherMaster™ film-heated windshields.

Safe and Sound Automotive GlassAcoustics
Safe and Sound® laminated sidelites from PPG offer smash-and-grab resistance, UV absorption and sound deadening for a quieter, more comfortable ride. PPG’s ability to bend and strengthen thin glass results in laminates that are a drop-in replacement for monolithic tempered glazing, but with less weight. Additional noise reduction can be achieved with PPG’s new Acoustigate™ glazing.
