Corporate Background

John Bohn and Vaughan Roberts founded Dacom Systems Ltd in 1981 and in 1989 sold their interest to Psion Plc, who renamed the company Psion Dacom Plc. Since 1989, Psion Dacom has operated as a separate and autonomous division of the parent company and has undergone another name change to reflect its future product and market focus.

Psion PLC, as a group of companies is focused on providing mobile Internet solutions, with Psion Connect playing a crucial part in providing the connectivity platforms that make mobile internet a reality. The company employs 300 people at its headquarters in Milton Keynes, United Kingdom, where it designs, manufactures and markets a number of mobile data access products. Psion Connect announces the new LAN Global Gold Card. The Ethernet PC Card that delivers fast, reliable, high performance WAN connectivity on one convenient mobile LAN platform. With just one slot the LAN Global Ethernet card expands functionality more than any other PC Card.

June 2000
Psion Connect announce the new version of the Gold Card 56k + Fax, Europe's No 1 selling PC card modem, taking advantage of the latest 3V technology. This enables power consumption from a PC Laptop battery to be reduced by up to 75%.

Psion Dacom announces its name change to Psion Connect, reflecting a growing portfolio of mobile connectivity products designed and developed to echo the evolution of the mobile communications market.

March 2000
Psion Dacom introduces the Charge Link, the first inline charger for palmtop computers and mobile phones. Gold Card users who are frequently on the move will now be able to keep their mobile devices fully charged without having to carry numerous bulky mains adapters.

January 2000
Psion Dacom introduce its new range of USB products under the brand name of Gold Port. The range, which includes an ISDN terminal adapter (TA), an Ethernet TA and four-port hub provides simple and effective plug and play solutions.

October 1999
Psion Dacom launches the Psion 56k Travel Modem with GSM. This is the world's first modem with GSM data solution that uses infrared to allow wireless connectivity to computing devices.

Psion Dacom introduces Gold Card NetGlobal 56k +10/100Mb CardBus. September 1998 First to ship Ericsson Approved GSM data products.

Psion Dacom launches the world's first five function PC Card offering fax, modem, Ethernet for connection to 10Base-T or 10Base-2 network environments as well as an upgrade path to add ISDN and GSM functionality.

Psion Dacom and Ericsson enter a licence agreement. Psion Dacom was the first third party in the world to obtain authorised access to Ericsson's GSM phone data interface technology. Psion Dacom are the first in Europe to ship a globally approved multi-function 56k PC Card modem into the main European markets.

Psion Dacom introduces the Gold Card Global V.34 + Fax, a new platform to take the company into the next technology generation.

Psion Dacom and Nokia Mobile Phones enter a licence agreement. Psion Dacom was the first third party in the world to obtain authorised access to the Nokia GSM phone data interface technology.

October 1996
Psion Dacom launches the world's first triple function PC Card offering fax/modem, GSM handset connectivity and Ethernet for connection to 10Base-T or 10Base-2 network environments.

December 1994
V.34 product approved and shipping into Europe.

March 1993
Psion Dacom is the first to bring a V.32bis product, approved and shipping, to the European market.
