The Qioptiq Group is a unique, international network of optics companies addressing defence, industrial, medical, aerospace, scientific, projection and telecommunications markets with optical systems, modules, subassemblies and components. Qioptiq Ltd, located in North Wales, specialises in the design, development and manufacture of electro-optical systems, sub-systems, modules and components to meet the needs of defence, aerospace, civil, industrial and space markets around the world. It employs over 470 people, of whom a high percentage are qualified engineers and a number acknowledged world experts in their specialist area.

The company operates with 3 business groups: Tactical Infrared, Land and Avionics.

Tactical Infrared

With a worldwide reputation for design innovation and manufacturing excellence The Tactical Infrared Group is dedicated exclusively to the design and manufacture of bespoke optical modules, providing leading edge optical solutions for the most demanding of defence and aerospace applications such as thermal imaging lens modules, surveillance, navigation, target acquisition, missile tracking and missile and laser warner.

Land

Qioptiq is one of the world’s principal designers and manufacturers of infrared and image intensified night vision equipment. To date, over 50,000 sights have been supplied to over 50 countries for a wide range of defence, police, border security, coastguard and search and rescue applications The company’s portfolio of products includes a complete range of equipment for use in the ground based environment, all designed to satisfy the most stringent requirements of international defence procurement authorities, and all fully qualified for use in the most extreme environmental conditions.

Qioptiq also offers a complete Contractor Logistic Support Service, encompassing equipment availability, obsolescence management, user level spares holding and the provision of a Management Information System allowing secure access to a data base holding stock data and repair status data.

Qioptiq provides a range of world leading night weapon aiming sights for a wide variety of platforms including individual assault weapons, light support weapons, crew-served weapons, anti-tank/anti materiel weapons and specialised sniper applications, using visible image intensifying and un-cooled thermal imaging technology.

A range of surveillance equipment is also available utilising both visible image intensifying and uncooled thermal imaging technology. Binocular and Monocular eyepiece variants are available providing maximum flexibility for surveillance applications.

Avionics

In the field of Avionics the company has an international reputation for the design and manufacture of optical modules for Head Up. Head-Level, Head-Down and Helmet Mounted Displays. The company have been designing and manufacturing optical modules for Head-Up Displays (HUD) for more than 30 years.

The company is also recognized for its expertise in laser protection.

Optical, Mechanical and Electronic Design

At Qioptiq, we have established one of the world’s most advanced opto-mechanical design and product development capabilities. Our Optical, Mechanical and Electronic design teams operate as a cohesive group, co-located to allow optimum communication. The design teams have 100s of man-years “in-field” experience producing many patents and technical publications.

Space Technology

Qioptiq Space Technology, a division of Qioptiq Ltd, located in Bodelwyddan, Wales, are world leaders in the design and manufacture of highly specialized optical space components. This includes the manufacture of a series of ultra thin radiation stable glasses for two main applications: “Optical Solar Reflectors” and “Solar Cell Coverglasses” specifically for satellite spacecraft.
