Renewable Energy Expo and Congress - Messe Köln - 1st to 3rd July 2002
Minister for the Environment Jürgen Trittin promotes development of renewable energies
Renewable Energy Expo has its finger on the pulse of the times

Cologne. The Renewable Energy 2002 exhibition, which is to be held from 1st to 3rd July 2002 in Cologne, has its finger right on the pulse of the times. This is proven by a recent announcement from the Federal Ministry for the Environment: minister Jürgen Trittin has presented a new focus of research relating to the further development of renewable energies. A total of 30 millions euros are to be provided for this from the government's Future Investment Programme.

The money will be available until 2003 for use in the areas of solarthermal power stations, geothermal electricity generation and ecological accompanying research in the fields of exploitation of wind power at sea, use of biomass and fuel cells. These are precisely the focal areas of the Renewable Energy Expo and the World Renewable Energy Congress VII. At these, investors, manufacturers and users will for the first time be able to obtain detailed and up-to-date information on these areas. More than 80 exhibitors, 1,000 congress participants and 2,500 visitors from the sector are expected.

The aim of the Federal Ministry is to double the share of renewable energies from 6.25 per cent in the year 2000 to 12.5 per cent by 2010. With an eye to the planned continuation of the programme up to 2006, Trittin said that he would continue to commit himself to ensuring that the research and investigation work of the Federal Ministry for the Environment can be continued on the present scale. The exhibition (Hall 13.3), covering a total area of 4,000 m2, offers this industry of the future an excellent opportunity to demonstrate its competence and abilities in the field of renewable energies and energy efficiency to a broad and international specialist public. Prestigious companies will be presenting the latest developments in the market, the federal states of Bavaria and North Rhine-Westphalia will be represented, and Great Britain will be presenting itself as part of a joint participation.
