For centuries,
Oxford University has
educated leaders of all kinds, from Tim Berners-Lee, inventor of the World
Wide Web, to Aung San Suu Kyi, Leader of the Burmese National League for
Democracy and Winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. Now we are in business!
Established in 1996, Oxford University’s Saïd Business School is one of
Europe’s newest and fastest growing business schools, and has rapidly
acquired a reputation for top-quality, innovative business education.
Best one-year MBA programme in the UK
In 2005 the Financial Times ranked the Oxford University MBA as the best
one-year MBA programme in the UK. The Times / Times Higher Education
Supplement’s rankings of UK business studies departments placed the School
first for the third year running, and Oxford overall stretched its lead as
Britain’s top university. Key factors in the School’s success are its
research rating, the quality of its undergraduate intake, its
expenditure on
libraries and information services, and the number of graduates going on to
graduate-level jobs or further study.
So what makes business education at Oxford different? Firstly, the Saïd
Business School is fully integrated into one of the world’s greatest
universities and can draw on the knowledge of faculty in adjacent fields
such as economics, international relations, and law, as well as on its own
faculty. Our faculty are all at the forefront of their fields and provide
intellectual leadership for institutions such as the European Commission,
the European Corporate Governance Institute and the World Bank. Their
in-depth knowledge across a broad spectrum of research areas includes
e-commerce, organisational design, operations management, corporate
governance, initial public offerings and technology.
Secondly, our student body is highly diverse. Our students come from
dozens of countries and all kinds of backgrounds, both professional and
academic. For example, the MBA class of 2004-2005 is made up of 174 students
from over 40 countries. When they graduate, our students go to work for all
kinds of organisations, from American Express to Greenpeace, all around the
world from Australia to Zimbabwe.
Thirdly, all our students are required to apply the knowledge and skills
they gain to real world situations; for example, MBA students complete two
substantial practical projects as an integral part of the programme. At the
same time, they are constantly exposed to the top ranks of the business
world. Regular seminars and guest lectures provide a steady stream of
networking opportunities, and recent guests at the School have included:
Stelios Haji-Ioannou, founder of the easyGroup of companies; Nobel
Prize-winning economist, Daniel Kahneman; and Rosalind Hedley-Miller, Vice
Chairman of Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein.
Finally, our facilities are second to none. Situated in the centre of
Oxford, the purpose-built Saïd Businesses School combines state-of-the-art
teaching facilities with classically modern architecture and landscaping.
“The architects have created a beautiful, serene building that performs the
noble trick of appearing to be brand new and very much of our times, yet
routed in the distant past,” said Jonathan Glancey in The Guardian.
