Energy Foundation

The Energy Foundation was founded in 1993 by the German Federal State of Schleswig-Holstein and the energy industry as an expression of an institutionalised consensus on the energy issue. It is a public-law foundation with legal capacity. The mission of the Foundation is to research, develop and disseminate knowledge and activities in the field of climate protection, efficient use of energy and the reduction of CO2 emissions, with special reference to energy use, energy conversion and renewable energies. Of the Foundation’s capital 50 % was contributed by the State of Schleswig-Holstein, 40 % by PreussenElektra AG and 10% by SCHLESWAG AG.  The Foundation accomplishes its goals using the income accruing from its capital assets.

The Energy Foundation aims to foster climate protection efforts, in Schleswig-Holstein especially, through the involvement of all decision makers in the energy sector. It considers itself an operative body that does not merely specify general focal points of support, but also develops projects itself, thus retaining an independent stance compared to other project application situations. In giving its approval to particular projects, the Foundation places special emphasis on funds being used efficiently and effectively to improve protection of our climate.

In order to achieve its mission, the Foundation performs the following tasks:
