For the last two to three years a large amount of foreign investment has been
directed towards Bulgaria, in particular around the Black sea coast. Attention

Bulgarian ski resorts are
growing increasingly popular, particularly with people from the UK, offering
very good skiing at prices far cheaper than western European resorts. The number
of visitors to Bulgarian ski resorts is growing at over 20 per cent per year,
with resorts such as Pamporovo reporting 100 per cent occupancy so far in the
winter 2004/2005 season. Newsweek recently reported that Bulgarian ski resorts,
namely Borovets, Bansko and Pamporovo, are the most fashionable ski resorts in
Eastern Europe.
A huge amount of investment is going in to these resorts, both from within
Bulgaria and foreign entities, with an estimated €300-400 million due to be
invested in the ski areas over the next three years. This will include new
hotels, lift systems and transport facilities.
In addition to being incredibly affordable, Bulgaria's ski resorts are also
very picturesque, with Pamporovo being situated in the midst of huge fir trees,
with most pistes being tree-lined. Pamporovo is also officially Europe's
sunniest ski resort. Being the most southerly of all ski resorts in the country
– it only takes 90 minutes to drive to the Greek Coast – it offers winter and
summer investment potential.
