The capital Sofia and the region around the ski resorts of Bansko and
Borovets are set for major investment due to Bulgaria's candidacy for the 2014
Winter Olympics. As the latest survey of World Travel and Tourism Council shows,
Bulgaria's travel and tourism sector is expected to grow by 6.3% in 2006 and by
4.3% per annum, in real terms, between 2007 and 2016. According to the Bulgarian
State Agency for Tourism, the number of tourists is going to exceed 5 million in
2006. The Bulgarian economy was boosted by a substantial €8 billion worth of
investment in property in 2005.
These numbers show excellent potential for capital growth and the
extraordinary rental potential for the new property buyers. It is expected that
such investment will continue growing at a great pace up until and some time
after the country's accession to the EU, simply because the country will become
more accessible to other European investors.
