Sensor Technology Systems (STS), part of The O’Gara Group Sensor Systems Division, has designed and manufactured intensified night vision systems such as the AN/AVS-502 and AN/PVS-21; head/helmet mounting accessories; and integrated night vision Heads Up Display (HUD) and Helmet-Mounted Display (HMD) systems since 1996. In fact, all of our night vision systems are capable of optical overlay fusion from external sources via our HUD/HMD systems. STS’ night vision products are utilized and relied upon daily by special operations forces worldwide.

Our flagship product is the AN/PVS-21 Low Profile Night Vision Goggle. This binocular system is the only production NVG with an integrated HUD capability designed for the rigors of dismounted use by ground forces. The system has been designed for aggressive special operations capability in air, water, and land environments. The low profile design offers 3-4 inches less forward protrusion than conventional NVGs, enabling a wide range of mission applications. More than 5000 PVS-21 units have been fielded worldwide with U.S. military forces, U.K forces, Canadian forces, Italian forces and others. The system is also available in a single-tube configuration as the Model 2740 Low Profile Monocular.

Other key features of the system include:

• enhanced night mobility
• see through optics instantly transition to bright light
• enhanced situational awareness with sensor integration
• large un-intensified field of view
• improved depth perception and close-in field of regard
• reduced centre of gravity for comfortable, extended wear

Every AN/PVS-21 is sensor fusion capable. STS has fielded over 1300 HUD systems: when used with the AN/PVS-21 NVG, these systems permit the fusion of various other sensors through direct injection into the NVG eyepiece. The Model 2755 EHUD can overlay a 32 degree thermal image upon the 40 degree image intensified field of view. Imagery such as Blue Force tracking systems, GPS and/or compass telemetry data, and LWIR cameras have all been displayed on STS’ HUD systems.

In addition, the EHUD can offer operators the same powerful capabilities for day operations when used with the Model 2758 Dayviewer. This system extends the utility of the overlaid data into a full 24-hour operating profile.

STS is well versed in the ergonomic challenges of head-borne systems. In serving a worldwide customer base, we often encounter different helmets and/or user requirements, each of which needs a unique mount design. STS pays particular attention to the comfort and agility of the human operator as we design head/helmet mounting solutions. Our designs offer a wide range of user interfaces and we deliver a low-profile configuration in all our current systems.

STS systems are proven to various submersion requirements, up to ten (10) meters, and also tested for altitude, temperature, vibration, humidity, EMI/EMC interaction, and other standard environmental criteria.
