Sunbelt is a Gold Microsoft Certified Solutions Provider interested in what NT/2000 Administrators need to solve their NT/2000 problems. Twice a week Sunbelt Software publishes a free e-zine for Windows NT/2000 System Administrators. This e-zine is geared toward keeping system administrators up-to-date on new and existing 3rd party tools, updates, upgrades, NT/2000 compatibility matters and related issues. Sunbelt Software now has over 500,000 subscribers and is the largest Windows NT/2000 utilities e-zine worldwide. Through this newsletter we are able to survey NT/2000 administrators to determine which utilities are most in demand. We then find the best-of-breed utility and market it through the Internet. Our strategic partners are companies like Dell and our customer list contains thousands of instantly recognisable companies.

So where is our focus? Business Continuity. Through our surveys we realise that most network administrators’ concerns are in this area. Over the last year world events have confirmed to all of us how important it is to plan for disasters. The destruction of the twin towers in New York brought this to the attentions of CEO’s all too vividly.

In the early years of computing if you had your backups stored offsite and some sort of written document you were well ahead of the game. This is no longer enough. Today automation is a way of life; the words e-procurement and e-business state it all. The focus should be on rapid restart and data replication, both local and remote, is a central element to business continuity planning. Disk-based replication technologies, both local and remote, are far more capable of quickly restoring business processes in an automated, synchronised, and timely manner than tape-based backup solutions.

One key is to integrate these capabilities, and the ability to manage them, into the DR plan. Despite tight IT budgets, we believe that postponing the implementation of a rapid restart, data continuity, plan is not a wise option for enterprises to pursue.
