WHAT'S TECNATOM?

Tecnatom is an engineering company owned by the main Spanish electricity utilities with interests in the country's nuclear power plants and has provided services to the nuclear industry since 1957.

The company's main activities centre on the rendering of inspection and component structural integrity services, the training of electricity generating plant operations personnel by means of full-scope simulators and engineering in support of plant operation and its main characteristic is the capacity to provide global services in an independent manner, but with full integration with the objectives of the client, such that maximum added value is obtained in its services.

Tecnatom currently has more than 550 employees and possesses premises in Madrid, Catalonia (Technological Support Centre close to three nuclear plants) and France (St. Remy and Chalon) as it has acquired Metalscan, a French company leader in the manufacturing of NDE transducers and inspection technology, and owns the majority of M2M, a French company specialised in the design and manufacturing of ultrasonic phased array equipment.

SERVICES AND PRODUCTS

During the last decade, Tecnatom has diversified its services and products on the international market having carried out projects in more than 30 countries with nuclear power plants, from the United States to Japan including United Kingdom, France, Sweden, South Korea, Taiwan, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Hungry, Check Republic, Russia, Ukraine, etc., and also with different type of reactors (BWR, PWR, Asea Atom, CANDU, RBMK, and VVER).

Inspection and component structural integrity services:

Different NDT methods are utilised for the inspections, including, ultrasonics, eddy currents, magnetic particles, dye penetrant and visual inspection. Furthermore, the leak testing, valve diagnosis, snubbers, flow measurement, etc. services demanded by the nuclear power plants in accordance with the standards in force are also provided.

In relation to nuclear power plants, the scope of the Inspection and Testing services includes:

The automated inspection of all the areas of nuclear power plant reactor vessels including closure head and bottom penetrations.
The automated eddy current inspections of steam generator and heat exchanger tubes
The automated inspection of other major components, such as piping and turbines.
Air-tightness tests in containment areas (ILRT).
Spectrometry of helium masses leak tests.

Engineering in support of plants operation:

Electricity generating plants count on the collaboration of Tecnatom to train their personnel, to provide support in resolving operational problems, to improve production processes and operation guaranteeing the highest levels of safety, availability and economic efficiency.
