Telenor Satellite Services is the world's leading satellite service provider via the Inmarsat satellite system. The company provides military and civil defence users with an extensive range of fixed, mobile and portable satellite services. Telenor provides satellite services to naval, civil defence and peacekeeping forces from numerous countries as well as international organisations such as NATO, the OSCE and the UN.

Experience in the provision of satellite services

Telenor Satellite Services has more than 20 years' experience in the provision of satellite communications. The company participated in the preparatory international discussions, begun in 1975, which led to the establishment of INMARSAT (International Mobile Satellite Organisation) in 1979 as an intergovernmental organisation. Telenor's Land Earth Station, Eik, became operational with the NORSAT-A communications system for the North Sea in 1976, and launched Inmarsat operations in February 1982 as the first European station in the Inmarsat system. Today Telenor is the only Inmarsat service provider with its own global network of earth stations. Telenor is also the largest single shareholder of Inmarsat Ventures plc, holding 15% - the maximum allowable.

Expansion during the last year

Telenor Satellite Services has expanded considerably during the last year. In March 2001, Telenor announced completion of the acquisition of the Belgian based SAIT Communications from SAIT-STENTO. In January this year, Telenor acquired COMSAT Mobile Communications, which has been re-named Telenor Satellite Services, Inc. and become Telenor's subsidiary in the US. Today Telenor Satellite Services has regional offices in Russia, Singapore, Greece, Brazil, Germany and Saudi Arabia in addition to the local offices in USA and Belgium (SAIT). The headquarters is based in Oslo, Norway.

GAN and Mobiq
Telenor Satellite Services offers Inmarsat-A/-B/-C/-M, Mobiq (mini-M) and GAN services in all every region throughout the world. Telenor's GAN (Global Area Network) and Mobiq are Inmarsat's portable communications solutions. Both standards provide a complete portable global access for voice, telefax, data transfer and communication services from a laptop size terminal.

GAN also provides access to up to 64 Kpbs High Speed data. Critical information can be provided at both the bandwidth and speed that is required. Solutions such as remote LAN/WAN access, e-mail, Internet & Intranet access, remote diagnostics, transfer of images and technical data can be used wherever needed - as well as high quality voice and fax. Telenor Satellite Services also offers a wide range of value added services such as Prepaid Cards, Internet Access & E-mail service, Voice-& fax mailbox, Call Forwarding, Split Billing and many more services. Encryption is also available.

Aeronautical services

Through it's land earth stations, Telenor provides a full range of Inmarsat services for head-of-state aircraft, peacekeeping forces and coast guard helicopters, including voice, fax, data, e-mail, Internet access and positioning reports (FANS, ADS and M-ADS). Worldwide two-stage ground-to-air calling is available via the Telenor Direct service. Telenor is licensed to provide STU-III encryption for specially authorized aircraft.

VSAT services

Telenor's VSAT service (NORSAT Sealink ) provides military vessels with a cost-effective solution for voice, fax and data transfer and communication. Vessels sailing in European waters can also receive radio and television broadcasts via the same antenna.

Reliable customer support

Telenor knows that many of its satellite service users are totally dependent of their communication services. Accordingly, the company offers 24 hours customer support 7 days a week. Telenor has been allotted a free-of-charge emergency number, 33, that customers can call directly from their Inmarsat terminals should they need technical assistance.
