China The Review of Thermal Power Generation Technology For China A Publication Co-published by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and Sovereign Publications |
There are enormous opportunities in the thermal power sector in China. Coal makes up 65% of China's energy consumption, and dominates (28% of world coal consumption is from China). The Chinese government is predicting upward trends in both coal consumption and production.
In the next 5 years, the average unit capacity in the thermal sector will increase to 80 MW. Approximately 50% of thermal power generators will have above 300MW capacity and unit consumption of coal will be lowered to 370g standard coal per KWh. In fact, coal-fired power will increase to 87.38 GW in the next 5 years.
The Chinese government is encouraging the building of supercritical and extra-supercritical generating units with capacities in excess of 600 MW. There are plans to develop large coal-fired power bases and to build load centres so as to increase the stability of the receiving end of the power grid and the capacity of transmitting electricity for Western to Eastern China.
Natural gas-fired power will increase to 13,640 MW in the next 5 years. China also plans to erect a number of gas-fired power plants to raise the proportion of gas-fired power. Other future projects include the diversion of natural gas from Western to Eastern regions, the introduction of overseas liquefied natural gas and a pipeline of natural gas.
THERMAL POWER CHINA will be published in Mandarin (Chinese) and will examine all aspects of thermal power technology and development as applied specifically to the Chinese market. The publication will include editorial contributions from the world’s leading professionals and western suppliers in the coal, gas and oil industries, thereby providing senior government officials and technical and purchasing professionals within the Chinese thermal power industry with an invaluable insight into advanced Western technology. The publication will explore how these technologies can be utilised by the Chinese government and thermal power industry to meet the increasing demand for energy in China’s growing market.
