Off Road

Timoney developed the world’s first independent suspension for Airport Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) trucks in the 1970’s and has continued to lead the evolution of independent suspension systems for trucks. Notable milestones include the Timoney suspension system for the P 23 8x8 ARFF, the first USAF fire truck to have independent suspension.

In 2000, Timoney introduced the latest stage in this evolution, the 87150 Series ISAS - rated as one of SAE Off-Highway’s Top 20 Products for 2004.

With fully independent, double wishbone suspension and 16” (400 mm) wheel travel, it negotiates the roughest terrain while maintaining traction on all wheels, resulting in vehicle speeds 2 – 3 times faster than those achieved with conventional suspensions. The units are available in axle weight ratings of 21-29,000 lbs. (9,500-13,125 kg).

Timoney mobility systems are engineered to the highest standards. Building on our heritage of over thirty years in heavy-duty independent suspension design, components and assemblies are designed using the latest 3D solid modelling, FEA and vehicle dynamic modelling software.

Durability and rugged performance matter and Timoney Mobility Systems are tested to extremes on our custom designed test rigs.

Specialist Vehicles

Timoney Technology designs and develops a variety of standard armoured and soft skin mobility systems for military, commercial and specialist applications, principally utilising our unique Independent suspension technology.

Staring with an APC developed and built for the Irish Army during the early 1970’s, we have been involved in R&D and production programmes with major defence contractors and government agencies throughout the world.

Since 2001 we have been involved in the U.S. DARPA Unmanned Ground Combat Vehicle (UGCV) programme. We are also working on the U.S. Marine Corps Gladiator Tactical Unmanned Ground Vehicle (TUGV) programme for the U.S. Robotic Systems Joint Program Office. Both vehicles are fitted with advanced variants of the Timoney independent suspension and driveline technologies

Drivelines

The Timoney independent suspension system is internationally recognised as the best in the field. This unique system comprises an axle housing with outboard air disc brakes fixed to torsionally rigid chassis rails or hulls with long travel coil sprung double wishbone wheel stations and delivers significant increases in speed (up to 2 to 3 times increase in cross-country speed), manoeuvrability and comfort.

Timoney or Timoney-designed suspensions are fitted to in-production vehicles such as the ADI Bushmaster, Singapore Technologies Kinetic’s Terrex AV 81 and the Bronco ATTC, the Textron ASV and many more.

Modelling & Simulations

Timoney Technology has the following engineering modelling and simulation capabilities:

• Finite Element Analysis (FEA) – This accurately determines the stress distribution in complex components subjected to complex loading conditions, facilitating the determination of the static and fatigue strength of components.
• Multi-Body Systems Analysis – Enables prediction of the dynamic characteristics of suspension systems and full vehicles through various manoeuvres including J-turns, lane changes and constant radius turns. Vehicle ride characteristics are also predicted over diverse terrain conditions.
• Vehicle Mobility Modelling –full-vehicle mobility simulation using the NATO Reference Mobility Model (NRMM) are applied to military projects, assessing the vehicle’s ability to negotiate various terrains and obstacles and to predict the limiting vehicle speed over these terrains.
