The Ancient city of Khujand is on the "Great Silk Way" and has old economic and politic relations with main cities in Russia and Central Asia. Due to its favourable geographical position, the Khujand airport is an important tourist centre with hot medicinal springs, enormous fruit plantations, lakes and picturesque mountains. The airport is situated between mountains and despite facing high temperatures of up to 35º C, during the summer period, the existence of wind speeds of up to 10-12 m/sec positively influences aircraft taking-off. In Northern Tajikistan, 310 days of the year are sunny thus creating good meteorological conditions for operating air flights. The State Aviation Company of the Republic of Tajikistan "Tochikiston" is a member of ICAO. Sogda aviation enterprise in its turn is one of the most important international airports in the Republic.
